Head Instructor

Ron Mays is entering his sixth season as the goaltending coach with the Niagara Ice Dogs (formerly Mississauga Ice Dogs) of the Ontario Hockey League.  Ron’s contribution has helped three former Ice Dogs goaltenders move on to pro hockey (David Shantz, Doug Groenestege, Miguel Beaudry) after their junior careers were completed.  Another former Ice Dogs goaltender, Michael Ouzas, led the University of New Brunswick to the 2007 CIS National Championship after capturing the OHL Goaltender of the Year award with the Ice Dogs during the 2004/2005 OHL season.

An Advanced II certified coach in Canada’s National Coaching Certification Program, Ron recently completed his Masters Degree in Sport Psychology, making him one of only a few goaltending coaches in the world to earn this distinction.

Ron has played and taught the goaltending position for the past 24 years and has played an integral role in the development of goaltenders of all ages and ability from mite to the OHL and beyond.  During the 2007 OHL draft, 4 long-time students of the Ron Mays Goaltending School (Brandon Maxwell – Erie, Bryce O’Hagan – Sault Ste. Marie, Brendan Gorecki – Niagara, and Joe Lepera – Saginaw) were selected by OHL teams.

Ron is also the author of four best-selling books on goaltending and the producer of a three volume DVD series entitled Between the Pipes: The Ultimate Instructional Resource for Goaltenders which was released in October, 2003.
